There is so much to be said for Minimalism. Recall the old adage, “Less is more.” It is applicable to art as well. Minimalists seek to distill the essence of an object by removing all nonessential forms from the work. The result is art that celebrates the object.

In my series, “Women’s Work,” I take kitchen items and photograph them up close and at unique angles. Sometimes the object is recognizable, other times, it is completely abstract. I rely on basic elements of art and design, specifically line, shape, and color, to elevate mundane objects to fine art status. I have found that finding beauty in the mundane, meaning in the overlooked, is one of the recurring themes in my work. Another is the life of woman, wife, mother, etc. This series also exhibits those qualities.
