ARTIST STATEMENT
As a small child, I was fascinated with my father’s analog Minolta. On occasion, he would let me wind the film, or push the shutter release. When I was ten, I participated in a photography project in 4-H. This was my initial introduction to photography using a 110 point and shoot film camera. Decades later, my love affair with photography continues, but now I shoot with a DSLR and capture more than just kittens and smiling friends.
Although my photographic explorations span several genres, as an artist/image maker, I get the most satisfaction from photographing people. I don’t set out to make images of smiling faces. I try to capture emotions and unique pictures of people from my own perspective.
Since I shoot in digital format, Digital Art is a natural extension of my photography. I harness the power of digital manipulation software when an idea or concept I want to communicate cannot be made with straight photography. I love the powerful creative options afforded me with Photoshop. As an artist, I am limited only by my imagination. From digital collages to radical manipulations to my existing images, I derive great enjoyment and creative fulfillment from digital imaging as well.
